Learning how to take better care of your pets
Community Outreach
Kansas City Veterinary Care is very committed to the welfare of animals as well as to giving back to the Kansas City community. For that reason, we do veterinary work for a number of charitable organizations in Kansas City, including:
Pets for Life.
Their motto is “Pets helping people.” Volunteers at this organization take carefully screened pets on scheduled visits to facilities throughout greater Kansas City, including hospitals, nursing homes, hospice facilities, shelters for domestic violence, mental health programs, treatment centers for youth and corrections facilities. The Pets for Life office is housed at Hecker Animal Clinic.
Kansas City REGAP.
(REtired Greyhounds As Pets). This organization works to find good, loving homes for Greyhounds once their racing days are over.
Missouri House Rabbit Society
The Missouri House Rabbit Society is an all-volunteer, non-profit rabbit welfare organization. Its primary objective is rescuing rabbits from animal shelters and finding loving, indoor homes for them, and educating people on the proper care of pet rabbits.
Lakeside Nature Center.
Located in Swope Park, in the heart of Kansas City, Lakeside Nature Center provides educational and recreational activities focusing on environmental awareness, conservation of native plants and animals and their habitats, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
EarthWorks
EarthWorks is an underground laboratory realistically displaying five Midwestern habitats: soil, prairie, pond, cave and forest. The laboratory comes to life when young people take on the role of scientists who work to determine the health of a habitat. Scientific teams collaborate to determine whether a habitat can continue to sustain life.
