Annual (or in some cases bi-annual) wellness exams are important to your pets health and well-being. Just as you and I are recommended to have annual physical exams so is your pet. At the time of your pet’s examination decisions regarding general health status and preventative health needs (diet, vaccinations, parasite control, ect.) can be evaluated.
An annual wellness exam for your pet will begin much the same as your own yearly physical. Weight and temperature will be checked. The doctor will ask you questions about your pets diet, behavior and routine. Sometimes things you might think are normal for your pet can nessecitate a closer look. These behaviors/habits can include excessive urination, drinking, panting or eating.
Does your pet seem to vomit or have diarrhea often? Does your pet cough? Does he scratch a lot? Also the doctor needs to know about any health issues you are concerned about. The doctor will evaluate the answers to your questions along with his personal observations after a physical exam to determine if there is a problem or cause for concern. Additional testing could be advised if you or the doctor is concerned about an issue.
An annual wellness exam can help identify health problems that are easily treatable if discovered early. It is also an important tool to monitor any type of abnormality that could become worse over time. An annual wellness exam can help your pet live a longer and healthier life.
