Doctors

Ward W. Brown, DVM

Dr. Brown is from Oberlin, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. After graduation he trained for two years at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital (AEVH) in Denver, Colorado, where he worked with board-certified specialists in the areas of surgery, internal medicine and neurology. It was at AEVH that he developed an interest in surgery, which continues to this day.

Dr. Brown joined Kansas City Veterinary Care in 1987. He and his wife, Sarah, have three daughters, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Katherine. Family pets include two standard poodles, a cockatiel and a rabbit.

Brock W. Exline, DVM

Dr Exline grew up in Salina, Kansas and graduated from Kansas State Veterinary School in 1992. He worked for a short time in Greely, Colorado, before moving to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he worked with a board-certified neurologist and internist at a general small animal and referral practice. He moved to Kansas City and joined Kansas City Veterinary Care in 1998.

Dr. Exline has a special interest in veterinary medicine and surgery with exotic and avian patients. He has completed specialized course work in aquatic veterinary medicine at Aquavet; preceptored at an all-avian practice in Cleveland, Ohio; participated in extended senior rotations at the Sunset Zoo in Manhattan, Kansas; and externed at the Henry Dourly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. Attending conferences such as the Midwest Exotic Animal Medicine Conference and the International Conference of Exotics helps him to address the unique medical and surgical needs of exotic pets. He holds memberships in Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV), Association of Reptilian & Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV), and Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV).

Oncology (the diagnosis and treatment of cancer) is another special interest for Dr. Exline's. His focus on sustaining quality of life, and reducing pain and suffering for cancer patients includes constant monitoring of new treatment protocols.

Dr. Exline and his wife, Kathi (an elementary school teacher), have two sons, Garett and Ian. Along with watching soccer and going to scouting events, he enjoys bicycling, hiking, hunting and fishing.

David R. McGhee, DVM

Dr. McGhee graduated from Kansas State University in 1981 with a DVM in veterinary medicine and Bachelor of Science degree in animal science. He practiced in California for several years before moving to the Kansas City area. He joined the team at Kansas City Veterinary Care in 1999.

Dr. McGhee has a special interest in veterinary dentistry. He is passionate about learning and implementing the best dental care possible for pets. His philosophy is: Every patient should be treated as our own pets would be.

Dr. McGhee has two children. Tricia is a junior at Kansas University studying International Politics. Rich is attending Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in Overland Park, Kansas, in the EMT/Fire Fighting curriculum and plays drums in a band. In his spare time Dr. McGhee enjoys playing the guitar, reading and fishing.

Bryan A. Reed, DVM

Dr. Reed joined Kansas City Veterinary Care in 2004. A Kansas City native, he earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Kansas State University in 1998.

His experience includes five years as an associate veterinarian at a high-volume practice in Kansas. He has a special interest in ultrasound technology and diagnostics. He is a member of the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association (KCVMA) and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Dr. Reed lives in Overland Park with his wife, Dianne, and Emily, their 6-year-old daughter. They share their home with a golden retriever, a border collie mix and two cats. When not at the clinic he is actively involved with his family farm business of breeding and raising thoroughbred horses. He enjoys travel and outdoor activities, such as fly fishing, hiking and running.

Paul Diehl DVM

Dr. Diehl is the newest addition to our doctor staff. A Kansas City native, Dr. Diehl worked at Kansas City Veterinary Care as a veterinary technician while attending Rockhurst University. He received his undergraduate degree from Rockhurst in 2003 and moved to Manhattan, Kansas, to attend veterinary school. He graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Dr. Diehl is particularly interested in surgery, exotic animals and internal medicine.

Dr. Diehl and his wife, Lauren, have three dogs (a German Shepherd mix, a Labrador mix, and a Dalmatian) and three cats. His hobbies include camping, hiking, snowboarding, and spending time with friends and family.
