Boarding

Kansas City Veterinary Care’s boarding facility offers your pet a clean, safe, and comfortable place to stay while you are away from home.

Kansas City Veterinary Care Boarding

Our facilities are designed to offer spacious accommodations for a wide variety of pets including dogs, cats, and exotics. Plus we offer several services and activities intended to enhance your pet’s boarding stay by keeping them more active and entertained.

Dog Boarding for Medical Needs

At our clinic, we offer specialized boarding exclusively for dogs with medical needs that require professional veterinary oversight. This includes pets who need daily medications, have mobility challenges (such as difficulty with stairs, severe arthritis), or are recovering from surgery.

We provide a calm, safe environment with a maximum capacity of five dogs at a time, allowing us to deliver individualized attention and care. Our dedicated team of trained veterinary assistants is passionate about the wellbeing of every boarder. Each pet is treated with the highest level of compassion, tailored to their specific health and comfort needs.

Daily enrichment is part of our care—gentle play, interaction, and close observation ensure your dog feels loved and monitored while you're away. Our staff is trained to recognize any signs of medical or behavioral changes, and any concerns are immediately addressed by our on-site veterinary team.

Your dog’s comfort, safety, and health are always our top priorities.

Activities

   • Daily Walks – Every dog in our care is taken for at least two walks each day—once during the morning shift and again in the evening. Each walk typically lasts 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your dog’s comfort level and mobility. Our staff is attentive to your pet’s needs, ensuring every walk is a safe and enjoyable experience.

Amenities

• Comfortable and Spacious Runs – We offer a variety of run sizes to ensure comfort and space for dogs of all sizes, including dog pairs boarding together. Each run is cleaned twice daily, and every dog is provided with a soft, clean blanket, cot, and fresh water after each cleaning. Our goal is to create a clean, cozy space where your pet feels safe and relaxed.

• Treats – Our kennel team loves dogs, and we keep a vet-approved treat bucket on hand to share a little extra joy throughout the day. We’re mindful of dietary needs and allergies, so if your pet has restrictions, we’ll always honor that and instead offer extra love and attention. We also encourage you to bring your dog’s own treats if they have a specific brand or formula they’re used to.

• Toys & Comfort Items – Being away from home can be stressful, so we provide a variety of toys—squeaky toys, rope toys, tennis balls, and more—to help entertain and comfort our boarders. If your pet has a favorite toy or blanket, you’re welcome to bring it along. Just keep in mind that pets sometimes treat their belongings a bit differently in a boarding environment, so we can't guarantee personal items will return in perfect condition.

Vaccinations

For the health and safety of all of our boarders and other pets staying with us we require all dogs be current on the following vaccinations:

    • Distemper/Parvovirus/Adenovirus/Parainfluenza (DA2P-P)

    • Rabies

    • Bordetella

    • Canine Influenza Virus (both H3N8 and H3N2 strains)

    • Fecal test for parasites

Cats are required to be current on the following vaccinations:

    • FVRCP

    • Rabies

    • Fecal test for parasites

We do not currently require any exotic species to be up to date on vaccines prior to boarding.

If you have had your pet vaccinated at another clinic, you may simply have them fax over your pet’s records or bring a copy in with you when you are ready to drop your pet off. We can also of course update your pet on any vaccinations needed during his/her stay. Please note: if your pet is older than 16 weeks of age and has never been vaccinated for DA2P-P, Bordetella, or Canine Influenza, or records are not available, a second booster will be required 3-4 weeks after the initial vaccination.

Special Needs Boarding
At KCVC, we understand that some pets need extra care. Whether your pet has a chronic condition like diabetes, special dietary restrictions, or is a senior requiring additional attention, our experienced team is fully equipped to provide compassionate, customized care.

Our flexible boarding facilities are designed to meet a wide range of needs. If your pet requires special accommodations, please inform us in advance so we can prepare appropriately and ensure the best experience for your pet.

You can use our online Pet Portal to quickly share any instructions, medications, or concerns regarding your pet’s care.

Please Note:

  • We do not board pets with a history of seizures or those taking anti-convulsant medications.

  • We are unable to accommodate pets requiring medications more than twice daily (i.e., no three-times-a-day dosing).

  • All new patients requiring special needs boarding (pets not previously seen at KCVC) must have a scheduled veterinary exam completed before the day of check-in. This advance appointment allows our doctors to review and discuss your pet’s medical needs thoroughly prior to their stay.

Exotics Boarding

We also provide boarding services for a wide variety of exotic pets including amphibians, reptiles, rabbits, birds, ferrets and rodents. Due to the exotic nature of these pets, we do ask that you call ahead of time so that we may ensure we have the proper facilities available to board your pet.

Reservations

Due to limited space, we do recommend calling ahead for a boarding reservation for any pet. Holiday seasons can be especially full, so in order to guarantee space for your pet, we recommend calling at least two weeks in advance. Reservations may be phoned in or requested via e-mail (please note, e-mail reservations are not confirmed until you have received a call from us).

We at KCVC strive to offer your pet the best boarding services possible. You may call anytime with any questions and are welcome to tour our facilities upon request. We look forward to serving you and your pet! Thanks for trusting KCVC with your precious pet!
